The Placemaking Funders Form is an initiative of Project for Public Spaces, a New York-based nonprofit organization founded in 1975 to strengthen communities through public space.
While placemaking continues to grow as a strategy for engaging communities in the improvement of public space, the primary challenge practitioners face on the ground has remained the same for decades: securing funding for capital improvements and ongoing operating costs. In 2025, this challenge has only worsened as reliable sources of public funding have been disrupted at every level of government. The Placemaking Funders Forum will empower local grantmakers to rise to the moment by actively coordinating across sectors, strengthening support for grantees, and streamlining their grantmaking processes to drive greater impact in public spaces.
With over 50 years of experience leading the placemaking movement, Project for Public Spaces is uniquely qualified to spearhead this effort. We have convened thousands of stakeholders, delivered technical assistance, trained a global community of professionals, and facilitated philanthropic partnerships with major foundations and corporations. Our on-the-ground experience, large interdisciplinary audience of public space leaders, and application of place-based philanthropy set us apart. Join us as we lead this effort.
